File Extension PPTPPT is usually seen as the extension for files created with Microsoft Power Point application. Files with this extension can run on cross operating system platforms including PC and Mac. A PowerPoint file is made up of slides that can contain text, bullet points, audio, graphics and several other components. Later versions of Microsoft Office PowerPoint including the one released in 2007 no longer support ppt extension unless supplied with compatibility software available at the manufacturer's website. The newer version upholds the open standard providing .pptx. PowerPoint 1.0 was actually designed for Apple Macintosh computers back in the early 1987. On July 31, 1987 Microsoft acquired Forethought, creator of PowerPoint 1.0, and its product for $14 Million. It was only in 1990 when Microsoft had its first compatible version of PowerPoint and since then it started to market the product along with other office applications. Similar to other office applications created by Microsoft, Power Point application is capable of attaching macros to its files. This macros can contain scripts that when run may cause severe computer system damages. OpenOffice.org's package can open and save files with this extension. Aside from that, presentations can also be opened with Apple Keynote, Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer, Nuance OmniPage Pro X, and ACD Systems Canvas. Similar file extensions
